We have everything

My inbox has been pummeled by emails about SXSW (no, I’m not going) and Canadian Music Week (no, I’m not going to that, either) for the last two weeks. This is an annual prelude to the big March music festivals that always leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth and makes me contemplate giving this whole music blogging BS up. It’s mind-boggling how many repetitive emails one gets about this stuff. It’s not that I’m bitter about not going (if I felt strongly enough about trying to cram an inordinate number of performances into a 72 hour period, I would on a plane or in my car in a heartbeat), it’s just that none of these emails actually give me any new music to write about.
So it was a pleasant surprise when I got a message from my new favourite Canadian label, Paper Bag Records, about another new, free EP of remixes from Young Galaxy. Keeping with the theme they started when Dan Lissvik molded their latest album Shapeshifting all by his lonesome, the band have turned five remixers loose on their sparkling single “We Have Everything” and let them reinvent it in their own image. You can get it for free here, along with the previous remix EP for “Cover Your Tracks”, also available for free.
Young Galaxy have a CMW show at Lee’s Palace tomorrow night, if you’re going to be in town.
