Bruce Trail Fire Sale pt.1

On December 20, 2011 the members of Toronto’s Bruce Peninsula gathered to celebrate the completion of their second LP, Open Flames, and were getting set to begin all the planning and preparation to get the album ready for public consumption in the coming Spring.
That Spring has sprung, and you’re probably aware that Open Flames was put on the back burner because on December 21, the morning after the aforementioned party, founding member Neil Haverty learned he had contracted Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. The band made a decision without hesitation; their plans would be postponed and Haverty would be given the time he needed to recover. The close-knit relationships in Bruce Peninsula existed long before the music ever did and so there was no question that the new LP would just have to wait until their friend recovered.
And that recovery starts now. Haverty has been given word that he’s officially in remission. Open Flames is now scheduled to be with us some time this fall, but we won’t have to wait that long to get some goodies from Bruce Peninsula. Starting today, the band is releasing a cover of Loudon Wainwright III’s “The Swimming Song” as the first in a series being called The Bruce Trail Fire Sale. Think of this series as a way for the band to recharge their batteries, stoke their creative fires, and give Bruce Peninsula fans a chance to see another side of the band.
