CONTEST: Peter Elkas @ In The Soil Festival – Thursday April 27

Elkas and friends headline the Top Soil Songwriters' Evening

Niagara is never at a loss for home-grown goodness.  Whether it’s fruit, wine, or expensive fruity wine in tall, thin bottles, there’s an abundance of goodness coming out of the peninsula.  For the third year in a row, Niagara’s artistic greatness will be on display at In The Soil, a multidisciplinary arts festival that’s running this ear from April 27 to May 1.

This year, Brock University’s Centre for the Arts will host the Top Soil evening on Thursday 28 April, bringing together some of Niagara and Southern Ontario’s most gifted singer-songwriters for one unforgettable night.  Of note on the night’s lineup is Peter Elkas, the former Local Rabbits front man and Joel Plaskett collaborator, who’ll be bringing his band to play selections of his latest disc, Repeat Offender.  Also up that night is lap steel guitarist Christine Bougie (who you met here), and Niagara native Mark Lalama, who is supporting his first solo project, Home, after having fleshed out his CV as a performer, producer, composer, and musical director for artists such as Mariah Carey, Jon Bon Jovi, Martina McBride and Canadian Idol.

Top Soil tickets are available online at Arts.BrockU.ca or through the Centre for the Arts Box Office at 905 688 5550 x3257, long distance toll free at 1 866 617 3257. Top Soil tickets are only $20 or $5 for high school students through the eyeGO to the Arts program.  New this year, $25 festival passes are available for all downtown events (subject to capacity).  Musicians, video, media, theatre, dance and performance artists will be showcased from 27 April to 1 May in 15 events throughout the downtown core of St. Catharines.  This year, 75 acts featuring over 250 artists were chosen by a jury of professional artists, proving once again that Niagara’s creative soil is fertile.  More on some of these shows to come later this week.

To claim your tickets, all you have to do is email CONTESTS [at] QUICKBEFOREITMELTS [dot] COM with your name and deets in the body and “TOP SOIL” in the subject line. There’s three pairs available, and you’ll be able to pick them up at the door.

The full In The Soil line is available here: inthesoil.on.ca
