If there’s a rumble, you guys’ll back me, right?

NEW MUSiC: Long Long Long

The other day I was watching the film I Love You Phillip Morris, about the bizarre, but true life story of Steven Russell (Jim Carrey), a compulsive con man and prison escape artist, and the titular Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor), his sweetly naive partner in life, if not exactly in crime.  It is truly one of those stories you have to see to believe, and even then it’s so incredible you won’t believe it.

So what does the movie have to do with Halifax’s Long Long Long?  They’re a perfect musical parallel to Steven Russell: they unabashedly follow their heart wherever it may lead, regardless of what kind of turmoil they may leave behind in their wake.  And I don’t mean that as a bad thing.  One listen to Long Long Long’s records and you’ll understand.  These four Nova Scotians barrel head-first through pop music, laying waste to conventions, turning melodies on their heads and reinventing your perception of what a first-rate band is.  You’ll read their song titles and think, Are these guys for real? and the answer is, More real than you think, even if they don’t think so themselves.

Long Long Long have just released a new free EP via their Bandcamp page called Who The Fuck Said Family Ain’t Family No More, and are about to embark on a pretty ambitious looking tour across North America.
