Sweet sounds
For over 10 years now, Welland, Ontario-born songwriter Scott Warren has been plugging away at his craft as the primary creative force behind the bands Pope Factory and perennial QBiM favourite Bronx Cheerleader. Recently, Warren unveiled details of a new project, Weejun, described as “more playful and experimental” than his other bands. Taking material amassed over the years that never quite fit with the direction of his other bands, Weejun fleshes out its base strummed guitar and vocal sound with toy instruments, vintage analog drum machines, odd percussion and the occasional electric kazoo.
Weejun’s debut digital 7″ single “Sour Life” b/w “Weejun Dub” will be out sometime later this month or in early May on iTunes and other fine digital dealers, to be followed by the album Utah Youth later in the spring on Yummy Recordings.
Weejun is playing as part of In The Soil: Niagara’s Homegrown Arts Festival, with Bocce and Old World Vulture Wednesday, April 27, at the The Mansion House in St. Catharines, Ontario.
