I wanna hold your otter hand

NEW MUSiC: Ghost Cousin

I loved the last Grizzly Bear album, and was surprised a while back when the band posted on Facebook that it’s been two years since the release of Veckatimest.  Though it’s not clear when we’ll be hearing from Grizzly Bear again, Edmonton’s Ghost Cousin are hear to fill the hole of orchestral pop that’s been missing from my musical plate these last 730 odd days.

The band spent most of 2010 writing and recording the songs on their debut EP Landscape of Animals, a collection of pop melodies marinated in jazz (as evidenced by the title track on offer below).  It’s a beguiling little record that wouldn’t be an obvious choice for me, but I found that as I listened to it, I was being drawn in by the dynamic arrangements and effortless playing.

You can pick up Landscape of Animals at Ghost Cousin’s Bandcamp site now (PWYC), and keep you eyes peeled for future show dates (nothing is scheduled soon).
