Carry on

NEW MUSiC from The Mountains & The Trees

“It’s new and won’t be released on a physical album until late 2011,” said Jon Janes of The Mountains & The Trees in an email he sent out to fans last week about new song “Carry On”, “but I figure, if it’s ready now, why not just give it away?”  And indeed that’s what he’s done.  The nicest guy in Canadian music (sorry, Dan Mangan, but you have nothing on Janes) is sharing a new song–the first since the release of I Made This For You last year–and hinting at the possibility of a follow-up release sometime this calendar year.

Although that what pretty much the gist of the email, it’s surely enough to whet your appetite for new music from Newfoundland’s favourite folkie.  If after one album you can say that there’s such a thing as “classic sounding” Mountains & The Trees, then “Carry On” certainly fits the bill.  Janes’ laid back, unhurried and hushed vocals are as distinct as his deceptively layered musical arrangements.
