If pretty little blue birds fly…

...then so can Armen at the Bazaar

Long time no see!

I needed a few days away from blogging last week to get caught up on real-life concerns, but I’m back with a pack of freshly charged batteries and ready to kick the QBiM summer season into high gear.  To do that, I thought I would formally introduce you to an artist I posted about on the (you’ve ‘QBiM Facebook pageLiked‘ it already haven’t you?) last week: Armen at the Bazaar.

Our boy Armen Bazarian is originally from Toronto and is making his home in Montreal, where he’s making some god damn excellent noise all on his own.  He spent his youth as part of the Toronto Children’s Chorus (no surprise given the strength and vocal prowess he displays on “Drive With Me”), and his high school and university years fronting rock, emo, and orchestral-pop bands before realizing that a band setting just stifles his singular, creative vision.

Bazarian has spent countless hours in the studio being his own backing band, creating multi-layered arrangements for his songs; on stage he uses loops and samplers to recreate the unique an thrilling sounds found on his self-released EP, Noor.  He’s the only guy musician I’ve ever heard cover “Over The Rainbow” who’s been able to really make it sound like its his own.

Noor is available now via Bandcamp (as is his first EP, Demoz), and you can catch Armen at the Bazaar this summer when he hits the road: July 9 in Ottawa at Zaphods; July 23 in Montreal at O Patro Vys; August 11 in T.O. at The Silver Dollar ; August 12 he’s in Sainte Agathe, QC at Duckstock;  August 25 in Montreal again at The Torn Curtain.
