Gold fools

(photo: Stephanie Shih)
When I think back to the early days of QBiM, I always think of Spanish Prisoners, one of the first bands that I developed a direct relationship with. Over the years main Prisoner Leo Maymind allowed himself to be subjected to the torture of sitting through one of my Q&As, and has kept up abreast of the latest goings-on for the Brooklyn-based band. I haven’t posted anything about them since the release of Los Angeles Guitar Dream EP, but word on the street is that Spanish Prisoners are about to drop a new record called Gold Fools, and they recently shared a taste of it with the world via a couple of new tracks. “Know No Violence” and “Rich Blood” are beguiling songs. Layered and textured, yes, but not dense and impenetrable. I haven’t heard the rest of the record yet, but if these two tracks are any indication, it’s going to be pretty amazing.
