Save yourself

iNTRODUCING Purity Ring

2011 darlings Braids announced last week they’ll be releasing a new single on a split 7″ with fellow Montrealers Purity Ring October 10 on Fat Possum Records.  You’ll be able to buy the single from both bands as they tour North America this fall.  The Braids track has been named “Peach Wedding” and will also come with a download code; Purity Ring’s track is called “Belispeak” and it available for preview now via SoundCloud and their main site (and now here).

Who is Purity Ring, you ask?  Good question since there’s scant information to go by on any of their online pages.  Facebook tells us that Corin and Megan are the band’s only members, but that’s about as useful as calling nuclear fusion “this thing that happens”.  So I did some investigative digging (you’re welcome) and it turns out Corin is Corin Roddick and Megan is Megan James, one-time members of defunct Edmonton band, Gobble Gobble.

Both Braids and Purity Rings have pretty extensive touring schedules from now ’til November.  Braids have conveniently left a small gap in their tour to allow for a trip to Toronto after their September 18th show in Saskatoon to appear at this year’s Polaris Music Prize Gala the next day (September 19, duh) before heading to Calgary on the 20th.  Purity Ring are going to jet back to Montreal for Pop Montreal on September 23, one of only three Canadian dates they have scheduled for this fall jaunt (the other two being Vancouver September 7 and Toronto October 18).
