NEW MUSiC: The Society Islands return

There would be no Quick Before It Melts without The Society Islands.  That, my friends, is an indisputable fact.

I may never know what possessed this good-humoured German musician to reach out to an upstart Canadian blogger, but I’m forever grateful he did.  Back in 2006, one month and one day into my music blogging adventures, I first posted about Boris Rogowski and his one-man band.  I was so tickled pink by his Kiss & Tell LP I was almost fuchsia.  It was a well-crafted, whip-smart pop album that I still listen to often and fondly.  Rogowski was my first interview, my first online contest (I think I gave away upwards of seven copies of Kiss & Tell), and my first QBiM-inspired musical obsession.  If The Society Islands hadn’t come along when they did, prompting me to make it my mission to get as many people to listen as possible, I probably would have given up on blogging.

I sometimes feel like a lone wolf out there howling about how great The Society Islands is, but I know there’s at least a few other bloggers out there that feel just as strongly as I do, and I’m seriously hoping that after checking out the new single “Wolves at the Gate”, many of you are going to join my Society Islands appreciation society.  For his first foray into the world of Bandcamp, Rogowski is planning on releasing new songs every three weeks, eventually making his new LP available in full.  “Wolves at the Gate” rattles the rafters like thunder, intricate in its arrangement and production without being fussy or overwrought.  You can sample the track below, but I guarantee that you won’t be satisfied by a SoundCloud embed, so head over to The Society Islands’ Bandcamp page and just buy the song.  Then be sure to go back every three weeks and get the next track, and the next one, and the next one.  It won’t be long before you’ve amassed what will certainly be one of the best albums you’ll hear in 2011.
