The last two weeks have seen so many album releases that I can barely catch my breath, or keep up with the blogging. I’m counting seven new releases in the last 14 days that I have wanted to cover on QBiM, and with this post, I’ve managed to get them all in. A week later, mind you, but it’s covered nonetheless.
Ohbijou introduced the world to their third longplayer, Metal Meets last Tuesday. The record was produced by The Besnard Lakes’ Jace Lasek, who helped Ohbijou find some new textures and effects to add even more colour to their mini orchestral pop symphonies. For the first time, band members Ryan Carley and Jenny Mecija have contributed to the songwriting, which, on the whole, features a sombre, somewhat pensive mood. It’s not a downer by any stretch of the imagination, but rather finds Ohbijou is a reflective mood, and a sound that suits them well.
