Ghost speak

iNTRODUCiNG Le Roi Crocodile

He says he’s a 16 year old kid from Vancouver, BC making indie-pop/electronic music in his bedroom and releasing to the world as Le Roi Crocodile (that would be The Crocodile King, my non-bilingual friends).  Since our correspondence started back in August, I’ve still to learn his real name, see a picture of him, or get anything close to a real bio, but what I’ve heard is more than enough to warrant a post on QBiM and get his music out to the wider world.

“The project originally started as a somber acoustic act,” my affectionately nicknamed pen-pal Croc tells me, “but I decided it was much more fun, challenging and important to bring a optimistic and up-beat stance to the music game.”  The first track he sent over, “Ghost Speak” manages the up-beat effortlessly.  Since then, Le Roi Crocodile has added a pair of stellar tracks to this slowing building canon of work: “Youth Decay” and the recently recorded “Battles” are both thoughtful and deft examples of a burgeoning musical talent who’s already well on his way to finding his own drum to march to (he cites The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Zombies, The Kinks, Passion Pit, Kanye West, and Two Door Cinema Club as influences).  The playfulness carries over to the various Crocodile King drawings that have accompanied the three tracks so far, artwork that I can’t decide whether I love or hate.

For now, the SoundCloud embeds below are the only place to hear Le Roi Crocodile, but my guess is that’s going to change very soon.  My friends at Silent Shout have already hitched their wagon to this king’s cart, as am I.  Le Roi Crocodile’s social media links could use some lovin’, so let’s all give this kid some treats this Halloween and throw some Likes and hits his way, too.
