Turn your love around

With just a few days left in 2012, I’ve got a small handful of artists that have yet to be featured on QBiM, but definitely deserve a mention, and top of the list is Montreal four-piece TOPS. Their first full length release, Tender Opposites, shares the same kind of off-kilter pop sensibilities as their label mate Grimes, but what sets TOPS apart from the rest of the Arbutus Records stable is the way they seduce the listener with familiar touchstones, making you question where you might have heard these songs before.

That sense of familiarity can be a double-edged sword, but TOPS  teeter towards the side where addiction overpowers apathy.  I’ve been drawn to this record over and over these past few months, feeling a deep down desire, almost a craving, to have a listen and get my fix.  Why haven’t I written about them until now, you ask?  Like any good addiction, Tender Opposites crept up on me and got its hooks in me before I had even realized I was even on this stuff.

And so, better later than never, right?  Tender Opposites is available for download now as the best $5 you’ll spend this holiday season.
